11-12-2013 How Do You Find The Density Of Irregular Objects?

Today we do into the lab!

Quiz Tomorrow or Thursday!

1.  We know how to find the volume of a cube, but what about irregular objects like spheres or rocks?

What can we do?

2.  Will the density change if we use more than one of the same type of rock?

Friday, November 8, 2013

11-8-2013 Will it sink or float?

Today we will find the density of cubes then predict if they will sink or float.

Wednesday, November 6, 2013

How do you think we can find the density of water?

Go to your assignment here.

Finish #10.

Today we will do #11.  Read it and begin thinking about your ideas and solutions to the challenge.

10-30-2013 Let's calculate density

Coming up soon!  Quiz on Density!  Oh my.  Start studying!

For the quiz, you will need to know:
1.  how to calculate volume of a rectangular prism.
2.  the difference between 1D, 2D and 3D objects.

We also can say density is when we compare the mass (amount of atoms) to the volume (size/space the object takes up).

Today we will calculate density.  Click here for the assignment.

1.  Please turn in your water molecule notes here.  Scroll to the bottom of the page for the Turn In Form.

-Find your water molecule notes in your science folder in your Google Drive.  (If it is not in your Science Folder, put it in there.  Open the Doc, click file, then Move to Folder.

-Open it, click share, and copy the URL.  Paste the URL into the form at the link above.

2.  Let's finish our investigation of Density by learning how to calculate density!  Click here for the assignment.

10-11-2013 Revisit Your Claim!

Yesterday, we learned the proper way to read a thermometer.

As we made our observations, I hope you kept in mind your claim about why the liquid in thermometers goes up when it is in hot water and down in cold.

I want you to be thinking about WHY this happens.  Hint, hint, it has something to do with atoms and molecules.

Today, I want for you to Revisit Your Claim.  Click here for the assignment.  Fill in the Form at the bottom of the page.  Don't forget to click submit.

Early finishers:  I want you to watch 2- 3 Scratch Video Tutorials.  Click here for my YouTube channel.

You will write about how a rain drop travels around the Hydrologic Cycle.  Please use numbers on your picture (the one you drew) and refer to those numbers in your story.

MOST IMPORTANT:  Include in your story HOW these processes such as condensation and precipitaiton happen.  This is your chance to show what you know about the science of the Hydrologic Cycle.  If you're not sure, that's OK at this point.  Just write your ideas.  We can change our ideas later as we learn more.

Please use complete sentences and write this story so it is interesting.  If people are bored, they won't want to read the entire story!  Make it fun as well as scientifically accurate.

9-17-2013 Game of Science - Let's finish!

No science yesterday.

Let's finish our write up for the game of science.

First we will have to cut out the pieces again.  Don't make them perfect!

Thursday, September 12, 2013

9-12-2013 Sub Day!

Today you will play another game and try to figure out the rules of the game.  You will work in pairs again.

First you will need to cut out the "game pieces."  One partner will cut out the P-1, P-2, and P-3 game pieces.  The other partner will cut out the G-1, G-2, and G-3 game pieces.

Don't worry about cutting out the board.

Try playing all games.  See if you can figure out the rules of the game, how to win the game, and how to lose the game.

After you have played for a while and your substitute teacher says stop, go to your Google Drive, find your Game of Science T-Chart Document that we created yesterday.  It should be in your Science folder.  You can also use the search bar to find it.

On the side that says CLAIM, please write any rules you can think of.

  • Where do the pieces start?
  • Do players take turns or roll a dice?
  • How do you move?  One space at a time or more?
  • Can you move forward and backwards or diagonally?
  • How do you win?
  • How do you lose?

On the EVIDENCE side, please talk about the moves that helped you figure out the rules.

Wednesday, September 11, 2013

9-11-2013 The Game of Science - Let's make a CLAIM

Yesterday, we played the game of science.  We didn't have the rules of the game.  That's what we were trying to figure out.

First, lets' talk about what we think the rules are and how do you win the game?

Then we will make a T-Chart with our Claims and Evidence.

Be sure your claim works for ALL of the play sessions!  You can't have evidence from just one play. It has to work for all of them.

Tuesday, September 10, 2013

9-10-2013 The Game Of Science!

Today, we will continue our discussion of your Claims, Evidence, and Reasoning in the case of Omar's missing iPod.

Then we will play The Game Of Science!

Monday, September 9, 2013

9-9-2013 What's Your Reason?

Last Friday, you made a claim, supported your claim with evidence, and stated the reason you thought the evidence you picked supported your claim.

Today we will review your work!

With your shoulder partner, please take turns sharing your claim, evidence, and reason.  Using DISCUSSION NORMS, please tell your partner if you agree or disagree with their C-E-R and tell them WHY.

Then we will discuss as a class.

Morning Core will go to the library!

Friday, September 6, 2013

9-6-2013 Let's Make a Claim!

On Wednesday, we discussed the observations and inferences we made regarding the evidence in Omar's missing iPod case.

(Yesterday, we didn't have time for science since we were getting ready for our Judo Math Advancement!)

Today we will make our Claim about what we think happened and who the culprit is!

Tuesday, September 3, 2013

9-4-2013 What's the Evidence?

Yesterday, you observed the evidence surrounding the disappearance of Omar's iPod.  You made inferences about the evidence.  Today, I want to find out more about what you think during our class discussion!

9-3-2013 How Stole Omar's iPod? Continued

Last Friday, we began investigating the mystery to find out Who Stole Omar's iPod.  (Remember, Dave is Omar's middle name!)

It looks like some of you did not fill out the Form.

We will talk about the evidence.

Then we will Make A CLAIM!

Friday, August 30, 2013

8-30-2013 No Science Today :(

No science today!  We have too much math today.  If you like, you can work on Omar's iPod over the 3 day weekend but you don't have to.

More science on Tuesday!

Tuesday, August 27, 2013

8-27-2013 Observe or Infer?

Today we begin science.  Check here daily for your assignments.

Do you know the difference between observations and inference?  After today, I bet you will!
